Nomi comuni: sal, sakhua
Nome scientifico: shorea robusta
Famiglia: dipterocarpaceae

Saal is a typical Indian subcontinent tree: from Burma to Bangladesh, from Nepal to Bengal. This tree grows lush in tropical and equatorial forests, ranging from 60 to 300 meters, though rarely over 1000 meters. It grows slowly and can reach 35 meters in height, up to a maximum of 45 meters. In wet regions it is evergreen but in dry regions it can lose its leaves in the dry season. It fits all terrain.

Its wood is hard, durable, with big grain, unloved insects. It is light but dark at the contact of the air.

This wood is used to build door frames and windows. To build furniture we use recycled saal wood, taken from old demolished or old furniture. Time gives this wood a patina of absolute beauty.
